Just A Tree in Wintertime

Lourens van Dijk : “Just A Tree in Wintertime”. Netherlands

This illusion is a photo-based tilt illusion. Some people may think the size of the photos in each row increases in one direction, but that is an illusion. In fact, the lines between the photos are horizontal. This spectacular illusion is caused by:

1) The slight tilt angle of the horizon as well as the trees and
2) The alternation of high contrasting, mirrored photos.

To the author’s knowledge, this is the first tilt illusion based on a photo grid. The illusion disappears when the red lines are placed. This illusion was discovered by serendipity.
